ATLS / ABLS Courses

ATLS

Jackson has been granted permission by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) to bring the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course to countries outside of the United States. The ATLS was published by the ACS in order to provide a definitive framework for the assessment and management of critically injured patients.

Our team of ACS certified physicians administer a two-day course which emphasizes the rapid initial assessment and primary management of the injured patient(s), starting at the time of injury and continuing through initial assessment, life-saving intervention, reevaluations, stabilization, and when needed, transfer to a trauma center.

The course consists of pre- and post course tests, core content lectures, interactive case presentations, discussions, development of life-saving skills, practical laboratory experiences, and a final performance proficiency evaluation. Upon completion of the course, healthcare providers should feel confident in implementing the skills taught in the ATLS course.

Our team is available to travel and bring this course to medical communities abroad, pending permission of the ACS. If you are interested in learning more about this and other courses administered by Jackson, or would like to request a course, please complete out or Education Request Form.

ABLS

Select medical staff at Jackson Memorial Hospital have been specially trained and certified by the American Burn Association to teach Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) provider classes. The ABLS provider class is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AAACN). Courses are open to physicians, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, therapists, paramedics, fire service and other emergency care personnel.

The eight-hour course provides guidelines in the assessment and management of the burn patient during the first 24 hours post injury. Following a series of lectures, case studies are presented for group discussions. An opportunity to work with a simulated burn patient to reinforce the assessment, stabilization, and the American Burn Association transfer criteria to a Burn Center will be given. Final testing consists of a written exam and a practical assessment return demonstration.

In addition to the formalized ABLS course, we offer the option to have a therapist lead discussions on wound care, physical therapy and occupational therapy strategies for recovering burn patients. This completes the full range of care needed to care for a burn patient, not only when first injured, but also when they return home and are in need of specialized care.
Our team is available to travel and bring the course to medical communities abroad. If you are interested in learning more about this and other courses administered by Jackson, or would like to request a course, please complete out or Education Request Form.
